Contemporary art

Contemporary art represents the most recent part of the Voeten Collection, and in itself it includes a steady flow of new art pieces. By consequence, the collection is constantly in the process of developing and changing.

International Contemporary Art

Without a doubt, a key element in the contemporary section is the art of Christo and Jeanne-Claude and their work in progress: the project Over the River, in addition to a series of graphics signed by the authors representing their whole creative activity throughout the years. During the past few years, works by worldwide famous contemporary painters were also added to the Voeten Collection, including large scale photographs by Vanessa Beecroft (b. 1966) and Sophie Calle (b. 1953) that capture the final results of some of their most celebrated performances.

The collection also holds the installation Monument for the End of the World from the year 2006 by the Romanian Mircea Cantor (b. 1977). Recent important additions to the Hugo Voeten Collection are the sculpture Lumpy Figure from 2009 by British artist Thomas Houseago as well as works by Antoni Tàpies and Imi Knoebel.
